Georgia Florida Instagram Explosion

If you ask any UGA student what their favorite holiday was, they would say Georgia/Florida weekend. It is the most fun gameday weekend of the year and all of the students look forward to it, but as social media has become more important over the past 10 years, students have integrated it into their weekends accordingly.

The longstanding tradition of frat beach on the Friday before the UGA Florida game is one of the most unique things that going to UGA has to offer. Thousands of your closest friends gather on the beach to drink and have fun. Sounds like the perfect day to me. Now-a-days when you walk onto frat beach, you see all of the typical things you would normally see, but there is an influx in pictures and videos being taken. Everyone is taking pictures everywhere. Everyone wants to get the best frat beach instagram and everyone wants to show off their costume. Every minute of the entire experience is basically in the archive of your phone. If a fight breaks out or if someone gets arrested, you can bet it will be recorded on a phone and put on social media. For some people, this is bad, but I think that it shows off how ~collegey~ UGA is. No one has ever said they didn't want to go to UGA because of the GA/FL weekend tradition. If anything, its a reason that people want to go to UGA. All of the instagram posts and twitter videos of the event only inspire dreams of getting into Georgia.

I realize that frat beach is a controversial event because of the heavy drinking and potential danger that the students involve themselves in, but to me its the perfect PR event for new students. People go to UGA because of how fun it is. On Saturday, when everyone is posting their instagrams from frat beach, it will only show off how fun and amazing the University of Georgia and its traditions are.
