Why Doesn't The Media Take Kanye's Mental Health Seriously?

It's no secret that rapper Kanye West has struggled with mental health issues throughout his entire career, but why doesn't anyone take it seriously?

It is almost the year anniversary of Kanye West's highly publicized mental breakdown that resulted in the cancellation of the last leg of his Saint Pablo Tour. Kanye was hospitalized for an episode of "temporary psychosis" which was brought on by sleep deprivation, depression, and extreme paranoia. Since then, he has kept a low profile, but that hasn't stopped the media coverage on him and his family. Many magazines and news articles have covered the topic of Kanye's breakdown, but rarely do they highlight the seriousness of the issues that Kanye faces.

Perhaps it's because of his famous outspokenness or compulsiveness that makes him seem like an egotistic maniac that isn't capable of having mental health issues. His career has been plagued with his inner demons. Not only do his episodes increase his publicity but they also seem to discredit their seriousness- its kind of like he is the Kanye that cried wolf. The only issue is that Kanye's mental health is a serious and very real problem. When the media practically publicly denounced the sincerity of Kanye's mental breakdown, they also discredited how thousands of people around the globe daily.

As an artists who incorporates his true, raw feelings into his work and comments on the social stigmas surrounding uncomfortable topics like depression and suicide, Kanye doesn't deserve to be put into a box, even if some people think that he created it for himself.
